3 Ways To Use Beetroots In Your Beauty Routine | Recipes

Even if cooking is one of my specialties, this is not a culinary chronicle!

It must be said from the outset that beets have the most beautiful natural color in the world. There are so few foods that give such a deep pink/red!

So here’s the idea: use beets to create your own noddy makeup! With this super versatile vegetable, you can make blush, eye shadow, and lip color.

So I obviously tested it for you!

1. Make Blush

All you need to make homemade blush is actually beetroot powder.

To do this, we suggest cutting beets into very thin slices with a mandolin, then drying the slices using a food dehydrator. The principle here is to dry them very gently, without heat.

But since I don’t have a dehydrator, I tried my luck in the oven, with 3 small sliced beets.

I (more or less) followed a beetroot crisps recipe, especially because in the photo, the beets seem to have kept their color!

Spread the beet slices on a baking sheet, which I put in the oven at 325 ° F. I placed another baking sheet upside down on top, and baked for about 15 minutes.

After cooking, the beets looked like this! I should have known, the heat changes the color of the beets, unlike the dehydrator.

Best Raw Organic Red Beet Powder

When cool, the beets had become very hard and crisp, enough to powder them.

I first tried turning them into powder using a mini chopper, but the resulting powder was not fine enough. So I then used a mortar and pestle.

After passing the powder through a sieve several times, I got a very small amount of powder, like this:

I didn’t hate the color, but let’s say it’s a lot more rusty red than the beautiful pink that I originally wanted to achieve.

The verdict: It’s probably best to use a dehydrator to get the most beautiful blush possible.

We can apply the blush as it is to our cheeks, or we can mix the powder with a little arrowroot flour to slightly dilute the color.

After testing it, even if the powder appears dark, the result is quite subtle and very successful!

Alternatives for beetroot powder

Much easier than making your own beetroot powder: buy this ready-made powder from health food stores, or online.

It’s obviously more expensive than drying a few beets, but affordable nonetheless. This powder is sold as a dietary supplement (to put in smoothies, for example) and as a natural food coloring.

Besides, it made me realize that I already had two kinds of beet-based food coloring at home!

More expensive and more difficult to find, but it’s proof that you shouldn’t hesitate to look a little further for alternatives to store-bought beauty products.

2. Make Eyeshadow

All you have to do is mix equal amounts of beetroot powder and mica powder, which adds shine to the mixture.

If it’s too pink, you can also add a few pinches of other colors, for example, cocoa, to darken it a bit.

3. Make Lip color

Lip color is used to tint the lips in order to enhance them in a subtle way. It is sometimes also called “ liquid lip blush”.

To create your own lip color, melt 1 tsp. Tea of coconut oil with 1 tsp. in tea beeswax in the microwave for 30 seconds, then 2 c. of beetroot powder.
